Silton vs. Cancer

This year's event will be:

Thursday, July 27th at 5pm to 8pm.

Rain or Shine!

For many summers, The Silton Swim Team has participated in the American Cancer Society's Swim Marathon and gift auction.  This event raises cancer awareness and money towards cancer research and local families. This year's event will benefit a local charity the "Emmanuel Cancer Foundation" of Wall Township, NJ.

Our 2014 Silton vs. Cancer

In 2006, Coach Danielle and her husband, Philip, lost their dear friend, Douglas Rillo, to brain cancer.  Doug was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the fall of 2005 while attending Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.  Doug fought an amazing battle for a year and lost his fight on September 21, 2006.  Doug was 21 years old. In 2007, the Silton Swim Team continued the ACS Swim Marathon tradition and established Silton vs. Cancer in honor of Douglas Rillo.

Each summer, Silton swimmers participate in this event, not only in Doug's honor, but in the honor of family and friends who have passed away, overcome, or who are still fighting this horrible disease.

HOW IS MONEY RAISED DURING OUR EVENT?  Swimmers will swim as many laps as possible during our three hour event and keep track of the amount of lengths swum.  Depending on their total number of lengths completed, swimmers will receive donations from sponsors.  Sponsors may donate money per lap or give flat donations of any monetary amount.  Laps completed at practice the week of the event will also count towards swimmer's total lengths completed.  We also hold a gift raffle during our event.  We have over 75 prizes to raffle off each year.

As always, we appreciate the generosity the swimmers and parents have shown over the years, and we are especially grateful for all of the individuals and organizations who have donated raffle prizes.
