Silton Swim Team is a member of the S.M.S.A, a recreational and developmental league, competing against The Atlantic Club, Avon-by-the-Sea, Deal Casino, Manasquan River Yacht Club, Neptune Aquatics Center, Spring Lake Recreation, and Spring Lake Bath and Tennis.
Silton Swim Team is a recreational swim program designed for young swimmers looking to improve their technique and gain race experience in a fun, team-oriented environment. Our coaches will teach the necessary techniques and skills to become a competitive swimmer. Through practice and competition, swimmers will refine stroke technique, build strength and endurance, and improve self-confidence and sportsmanship.
Eligibility Requirements:
Swimmers, ages 7-14 must be able to complete a 50 yard freestyle independently and have knowledge of either backstroke and/or breaststroke.
6 year olds swimmers must have a trial practice before officially enrolling and making payment and eligibility will be determined by a coach or team manager. Swimmers must be able to swim a 25 yard freestyle independently and side breathe.
Practice Schedule:
Our summer season will begin mid June and run through the beginning of August (this will vary each summer and will depend on the meet schedule and coaches meeting held late March). The following practice days and times are designated for each age group:
6 year old swimmers will practice on Mondays and Thursdays from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM
Ages 7 to 10 will practice on Mondays & Thursdays 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM (Depending on skill level, some 9/10 year old swimmers may be asked to practice on Tuesday & Wednesdays with our older age group)
Ages 11 to 14 will practice on Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM
Swim Meets & Age Group Info
There will be approximately 6 swim meets scheduled during our summer season. Swim meets generally take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during July. Swim meets will begin at 5:45 pm and last for apporximately 2 hours. You are responsible for driving your child to and from the meets. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled warm up time.
During each meet, swimmers will compete as follows:
6 year olds: Compete in a 25 yard Freestyle and Backstroke events only (races may be co-ed or by gender)
7 & 8 year olds: All individual events are 25 yard races. Swimmers may compete in any of the following events: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly or the 100 yard Freestyle or 100 yard Medley Relays. Races are female and male events. Additional heats may be co'ed.
9 & 10 year olds: All individual events are 25 yard races. Swimmers may compete in any of the following events: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly or the 100 yard Freestyle or 100 yard Medley Relays. Races are female and male events. Additional heats may be co'ed. Swimmers are eligible to compete in the 100 yard Individual Medley event.
11 & 12 and 13 & 14 year olds: All individual events are 50 yard races. Swimmers may compete in any of the following events: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly or the 200 yard Freestyle or 200 yard Medley Relays. Races are female and male events. Additional heats may be co'ed. Swimmers are eligible to compete in the 100 Individual Medley event.
Parent Volunteers
During each swim meet, we ask for 7 parent volunteers to be timers, ticket writers, or place judges. We ask that you volunteer for at least one swim meet each season. We cannot begin the meets unless all lanes have a timer and each team has a place judge. We thank you for your help and cooperation.
